Vision Boarding 101

Vision boarding is a very popular exercise, especially this time of year. January for many people is a time to set goals and intentions. The new year is viewed as a clean slate and a time to feel energized to tackle goals. Whether you’re a person who actively practices some reflection around this time of year or not, you might agree that there is beauty in sharing this activity with people all around the globe as a collective effort.

Vision boarding is an exercise used to help us envision what we want. Many people partake in this exercise to envision the new year, what they want to accomplish, and what they most want to manifest in that time. When we envision what we want, the steps to get there become clearer. If creating a vision board is of interest to you, allow these 3 ideas to spark creative flow. Let us know which vision board idea you decide to try for 2022.

1)    Poster Board and Magazines:

The most common form of vision boarding is hands-on. Grab a large poster board, scissors, and a stack of your favorite magazines. Begin to cut words and images that are appealing. Think about ideas, places, and things you want to attract in your life. If it’s something you want in your life, cut out the image, symbols, or words. Analyze the cutouts later. At first, just cut out and collect what you like. Once you have a stack together, analyze what you want to put on your board. They might even be symbolic words or images to something that only you understand. Paste the cutouts that most resonate with you on the poster board. Once complete, hang the board someplace you will see for daily for inspiration. Try your home office, inside closet door or wall, or other unique place to you.

2)    Virtual Board:

Think of this as your virtual poster board. Rather than cutting out images and making this a crafting activity, hone in the creative art form in digital form. If you have the tools and skills, use a digital design platform such as Adobe, or Canva. Or use Pinterest as your handy tool. Create a board and call it your “2022 Vision Board” or give it a personal creative title. Then begin adding images to it that are inspiring and on your to-list for the new year. Make this as creative as your mind allows you to be. Add borders and fun colors to personalize your board in addition to the ideas you are working on attracting to your life this year. Once complete, the key to virtual boards, is making it a point to keep coming back to the board to make sure it stays in the forefront. It can’t be a board you complete and don’t look at again for 3 -6 months. How will you keep the board visual? Print out the board, make it your desktop background, or make it a point to look at it very regularly.

3)    Hybrid Board:

Take the best of both boards and combine them. Grab your magazines and scissors, but also keep your laptop handy. If there are images you’re looking for, symbols, or words that you know are part of your plan, go ahead and find them online and print them. Add these to your magazine cutouts. Do you own paint? stickers? Markers? Get crafty! Use all the tools at your disposal to create your personal vision board. Once you have all of your images, put them on a magnetic board, bulletin board, or on a nice large paper and spring for a funky frame that matches your room to display it. Be sure to place the board where you’ll see it everyday.

Look at your board as often as you can. Get crafty and creative!

May it inspire you to reach for and accomplish your goals this year.
