Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Health Coach?

A Health Coach assists people in leading happier, healthier lives by providing support and accountability in the areas of self- care, envisioning, and planning. This includes helping people clarify what they want, explore options, enhance accountability, and take action towards their desired outcome and their vision of optimal health.

Who would benefit from a Health Coach?

While health coaching can be for anybody, ideally it is for people who are ready to make a change. They are people who could benefit from structure, support, resources, and accountability in making behavior changes towards a healthier lifestyle. Keep in mind- healthy lifestyle includes all aspects of wellness.

What are some examples of behavior changes?

Here are just a few examples:

  • A person seeking work and personal life balance,

  • A person looking for motivation to reach their desired personal or professional outcome,

  • A person looking for a “life reset,”

  • A person who could benefit from structure, support, and accountability to reach their goals,

  • A person who wants to improve their nutritional habits,

  • A person who wants to improve their exercise and movement habits,

  • A person who wants to work on mindfulness,

  • A person who wants to manage stress,

  • A person who wants to focus on self-care,

  • A person who wants to make a change in their physical environment,

  • A person who is seeking to explore or spark relationships in their life,

  • A person who wants to work on personal or professional development,

  • A person who is struggling with how to get a good night’s rest...

This list can go on. The client/member chooses the area of focus (their desired outcome), and what behavior or habit they want to change.

What can I expect from health coaching?

A person can expect a fully present, safe, and supportive environment through honesty, respect, and non-judgment. While the process of coaching is individual for each person, it is fluid in nature, encouraging, and self directed.

How is health coaching different from therapy?

A therapist might explore history and trauma in the healing process, conflict with a person or multiple relationships, among other things. They are licensed to treat diagnosable disorders, emotional traumas, manageable mental health conditions, and people in distress.

Different from therapists, a coaching session will focus on the present behavior change needs and action steps to get to a desired outcome.

Coaches are guides through the process of change. The coach and client are a team working towards a common goal- the client’s optimal health and well being.

How are sessions set up?

In our initial session, we will discuss the integrative health coaching partnership, logistics, and expectations as well as answer any questions a client/member may have. We will discuss the member’s vision for optimal health and what led them to seek health and wellness coaching.

The following sessions will be exploratory sessions in goal development and follow up in the member’s area of focus.

Health Coaching Sessions are one-on-one and conducted via web based platform, by phone, or in person at our Mint Hill, NC office.
